BCCI Removes Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from Central Contract List
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has excluded Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the central contract list due to their absence in the Ranji Trophy matches. Reports suggest that Iyer opted to attend a camp organized by his IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, instead of playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final in Baroda. This decision has drawn criticism from former KKR player Brad Hogg.
Hogg emphasized the importance of players participating in domestic cricket when they have the time. He criticized Iyer for prioritizing practice with his IPL team over representing his state team.
“If you have the time to play domestic cricket, you should do it. For Iyer, he can’t leave his state team to practice with the IPL franchise. If you are not in the Indian team, you should go and play for your domestic team. Only Virat Kohli is allowed to miss domestic matches as he has done a lot for Indian cricket and he needs a break to recover,” Hogg stated.

On the other hand, a KKR official revealed that Iyer took an injection to play in the ICC World Cup 2023 for Team India and even skipped the IPL in 2023. The official clarified that Iyer was not given a break after the global event in India.
“Iyer skipped the IPL to play the World Cup. He took an injection to be pain-free for the event. Iyer wasn’t given a break after the World Cup. He was part of the T20I series against Australia at home and then went to South Africa. He played a Ranji Trophy match ahead of the Test series against England. He has a right to train under a coach of his choice,” the KKR official explained.
